Advanced Non-Destructive Testing Services
Advanced Non-destructive Testing (NDT) Services
PetroChem specializes in Advanced Non-destructive Testing Services (NDT) such as Tube Testing (ECT, RFT, IRIS), Real Time Radiography (RTR), Computerized Radiography, Phased Array Ultrasonics, Alternating Current Field Measurement (ACFM) and more.
To keep on the cutting edge of technology, we have made significant investments into the development and testing of new advanced inspection technologies. Our Advanced Inspection Services Division has a dedicated staff tasked with developing specialized techniques, which are then applied in the field and used commercially.

About Automated Eddy Current Testing (ECT)
Eddy Current Testing (ECT) is an electromagnetic test method widely used for flaw detection and sizing in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Corrosion, I.D. and O.D. pitting, and mechanical wear are some of the flaws that can be accurately measured by ECT.
ECT has a wide range of testing applications including heat exchangers, condensers, boiler tubes, process coders, and chillers. Codes and specifications for ECT have been developed by ASME, and ASTM, as well as the Armed Forces of the United States. PetroChem takes pride in the quality of its personnel who are certified to SNT-TC-1A levels II and III as well as qualified on a number of industry standard bundles (i.e., Shell, Chevron, EPRI, Equistar, Train, and Carrier).
Adding the computerized analysis capability to standard eddy current testing improves the consistency of results. It also provides a permanent storage media for PetroChem clients to use in sequential evaluations from year to year.
Features
- Sophisticated algorithms analyze data with minimal human intervention.
- Computerized analysis allows permanent storage of consistent results.
Your Benefits
- Reduced Inspection Time – Automated analysis improves productivity reducing technician time and cost.
- Permanent Record – The inspection data can be stored and saved to a variety of recording media. This allows data to be archived, or retrieved later for review.
- Consistent, accurate, and repeatable results – Data can be emailed for rapid decision-making.
About Ultrasonic Flaw Detection and Sizing
Recognized as a premier provider of ultrasonic flaw detection, our experience spans many years working with a variety of clients and on a wide variety of component types, employing personnel that are truly at the top of this ever-evolving field of inspection.
New techniques and uses for ultrasonic flaw detection are constantly being developed. To be at the forefront requires a strong commitment and investment in equipment and personnel. We pride ourselves on being a leader and innovator in ultrasonic flaw detection and development of new methods while drawing from our hands-on experience to provide proven solutions for our clients.
About Ultrasonic B-Scan Imaging
Ultrasonic B-Scan imaging is an ultrasonic system that allows for profile imaging of the component. The system, in the most basic terms, is one which utilizes a gated ultrasonic instrument and transforms the data collected into the profile image.
Typically this system offers several advantages over the standard ultrasonic thickness measurement including speed, ability to obtain hard copy records and the ability to maintain a screen image that represents a length of inspection area, thereby reducing the operator error that can occur with a normal A-Scan thickness examination.
